THE
ZAMBEZI CLASSIC SHORT
Canoeing
begins after a safety talk at about
13h00. This safari includes the whole
of the Mana flood plain and the Mupata
Gorge. On the last night, clients camp
at Kanyemba. The transfer back is
approximately 8 hours. Clients are
expected back in Kariba at
approximately 16h00.
Your briefing will be held at the
Kariba Breezes Hotel at 18h15 at the
lower pool terrace on the evening
before your trip departs. After the
briefing you will be asked to sign an
indemnity form. Canoeing Safaris will
collect you for the briefing and
return you to your hotel afterwards.
DAY ONE (18 km)
1. Canoeing Safaris will collect you
on the morning of your safari in time
for a check in at the Canoeing
Safaris’ office at 08h00 to hand in
extra luggage and valuables. Please do
not take your passport on the River
with you!
2. Your safari will depart from Kariba
Breezes at 08h30 for shopping to
purchase any extra drinks for your
trip. Your group will leave the shop
at 09h00 for the start of the canoe
safari.
3. Your group will be transferred by
open landcruiser to Chirundu, arriving
at approximately 11h30. The canoes and
kit will be unloaded.
4. A safety talk and demonstration of
how to paddle a canoe will be given to
your group.
5. At around 12h00, paddling will
begin until 17h00.
6. Lunch is a packed lunch taken on
the River.
7. At approximately 17h00 you will set
up camp on an island named Kakomara,
there is time to bath, relax and have
dinner after a brief safety talk on
camping.
DAY TWO (27 km)
1. Your group will be woken up at
sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits
before paddling from 06h00 to 08h00
when you stop for breakfast.
2. At approximately 09h30 the gorup
will resume canoeing until you reach
the lunch stop at 12h30. After lunch
there is a siesta and time to catch up
on reference books until 14h30 / 15h00
depending on the weather.
3. Canoeing continues until
approximately 17h00, when the second
night stop is made at Lone Acacia
Island.
DAY THREE (23 km)
The programme is as per day two, with
the night stop being made at Trichelia
Island.
DAY FOUR (27 km)
1. The group is woken up at sunrise
for tea, coffee, biscuits and
breakfast before paddling starts at
08h00.
2. The group arrives at Mana Pools at
10h00 where the canoes are loaded on
to the vehicles and fresh supplies are
off loaded, and canoeing proceeds
until 12h30.
3. A short lunch break is made where
you will receive a light packed lunch.
Canoeing starts at approximately
14h30. At around 17h00 the group will
arrive at the night stop, Nyamatusi
Island.
DAY FIVE (24 km)
1. The group wakes up at sunrise for
tea, coffee and biscuits before
paddling for about an hour to the
breakfast spot.
2. After breakfast between 08h30 and
09h30, you will paddle until 12h30
where a lunch stop is made followed by
a siesta until approximately 15h00.
3. The group paddles to Chewore High
Sand Bank where the night stop is
made.
DAY SIX (30 km)
The programme is the same as day two
with the night stop being made in the
Mupata Gorge.
DAY SEVEN (28 km)
The programme is the same as day two
and three with the night stop being
made at the Redcliffs.
DAY EIGHT (15 km)
The group wakes up at sunrise for tea,
coffee and biscuits and breakfast
before paddling for about one hour to
Kanyemba, where the canoes and kit are
packed on to the vehicle, followed by
the trip back to Kariba which is
approximately eight hours by road.
Arrival time in Kariba is around
16h00.

SAFARI WHERE THERE ARE NO ABLUTION
FACILITIES ALONG THE WAY. ALL TIMES
GIVEN ARE APPROXIMATE AND WILL VARY
FROM TRIP TO TRIP.
