Kariba to Mana Pools  - 6 days / 5 nights Departs  - Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday
Available  - all year round Transfer  - to the put in point is 20 minutes. 

THE SAFARI...
There is then a half-hour pleasant walk down into the Gorge. Canoeing begins after a safety talk at approximately 11h00. This safari offers participants the time to get to know the River and its moods - from the brooding silence of the Kariba Gorge to the vast panoramic flood plains of Mana. On the last day clients paddle a short 2 hour stretch before the take-out at Nyamepi. The return transfer takes approximately 4 hours. Clients are expected back at 15h00.

Your briefing will be held at Kariba Breezes Hotel at 18h15 at the lower pool terrace on the evening before your trip departs. After the briefing you will be asked to sign an indemnity form. Natureways Safaris will collect you for the briefing and return you to your hotel afterwards.


DAY ONE (18 km )

1. Natureways Safaris will collect you from your hotel the morning of your safari in time for a check in at the Natureways Safaris office at 08h00 to hand in any extra luggage and valuables. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PASSPORT ON THE RIVER WITH YOU!

2. Your safari will depart from Kariba Breezes at 08h30 for shopping to purchase any extra drinks for your trip.

3. After arriving at the Kariba Gorge, your luggage is then carried into the Gorge and your group will walk the 1.5 km down to the River. Here you will meet all your canoeing and camping equipment that has been carried into the Gorge already.

4. A safety talk and demonstration on how to paddle a canoe will be given to your group.

5. At 11h00, paddling will begin until a stop is made for lunch at 13h00.

6. Lunch is a picnic-style lunch with time for a siesta afterwards to pass the heat of the day until 14h30 / 15h00. 

7. Your group then paddles until approximately 17h00 when you set up camp on an island in the middle of the River named Crocodile Rocks. There is time to have a bucket bath, relax and have dinner after a brief safety talk on camping.


DAY TWO (27 km)

1. Your group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before you start canoeing.

2. Between 08h00 and 09h30 a stop will be made for breakfast.

3. Your group will resume canoeing until a lunch stop is made at13h00, with time for a siesta.

4. Between 15h00 and 17h00 your group will paddle to the next camping spot at Twin Logs Island.


DAY THREE (28 km)

1. Your group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast before you start canoeing.

2. Paddling will start around 08h00. Between 10h30 and11h00 you will reach the pick up point at Chirundu where your equipment will be loaded and you will receive fresh and clean equipment for the second leg of your safari.

3. The group will resume paddling after a light packed lunch to the night stop at Kakomarara Island.


DAY FOUR (27 km)

Your programme is the same as day two with the night stop being made at Lone Acacia Island.


DAY FIVE (23 km)

Your programme is the same as day two and four with the night stop being made at Trichelia Island.


DAY SIX (6 km)

1. The group is woken up at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast before paddling starts at 08h00.

2. The group arrives at Mana Pools at 10h00 where the canoes are loaded on to the vehicles for the return trip to Kariba. Arrival time in Kariba is approximately 14h30.


PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A CAMPING SAFARI AND THERE ARE NO FIXED ABLUTION FACILITIES ALONG THE WAY. ALL TIMES GIVEN IN THIS TRIP DESCRIPTION ARE APPROXIMATE, THEY WILL VARY FROM TRIP TO TRIP.


WHAT TO BRING

1. Please keep your luggage to a maximum of 10kg per person, packed in a soft bag not a suitcase.

2. We recommend you pack the following for your safari:

Swimming Costume
Shorts
Personal toiletries
Towel
Canvas shoes or rafting sandals
A hat with a wide brim
A jacket or cardigan for the evenings
Shirts (including a long sleeved one for sun protection)
A kikoi or length of cloth to cover your legs to protect them from the sun
A torch or flash / flashlight and extra batteries
Film and spare camera batteries
Binoculars 
Sunscreen
Insect repellent
Socks for winter nights
Warm clothes to sleep in for winter nights


3. Natureways Safaris provides all camping equipment and food as well as cordials, and wine for dinner. Should you wish to take any hard liquor, beer or carbonated drinks, we will take you to a shop in Kariba to purchase these.

4. Please ensure that you have begun a course of anti malaria tablets before your arrival in Zimbabwe and that you continue the medication for four weeks after arriving home.

5. Please ensure that you advise Natureways Safaris or your travel agent of any dietary preferences or requirements at least one week before your trip departs. Please ensure you advise your agent or Natureways Safaris of any medical disorders, which may require special attention.
