THE BOMA – Victoria Falls

The Boma provides not just a meal but a unique cultural, dining experience that bombards the senses with the tastes, sights and sounds of Africa - together with the warmth and hospitality of Zimbabwe and its people.

It is open for dinner from 7.00pm until late, 365 days of the year.  Guests can relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a “once in a lifetime evening”.

The Boma has become a “MUST DO” for all visitors to Victoria Falls!

The Boma nestles in a Gusu Forest and is partly open to the spectacular African night skies.  It is adjacent to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and transport to and from the restaurant is provided from all hotels in Victoria Falls at reasonable rates.  Guests staying at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge are offered courtesy transport to and from dinner.

Although The Boma is a 250-seater restaurant, advance reservations are necessary.  We do advise that you request your agent to make reservations for The Boma when booking your Victoria Falls itinerary, as it is regularly fully booked, often 24 to 48 hours in advance.  Don’t be disappointed.

The restaurant seats 250 in the dry season (April to October) and 180 in the rainy season (November to April).  Exclusive use of The Boma can be arranged for a minimum of 180 covers.  Exclusive bookings for less than this may be negotiated on payment of a premium, and we can assist with theme / gala events.

Specialising in a superb selection of traditional Zimbabwean dishes served on cast iron plates, The Boma offers a four-course meal combining a choice of starters with a barbecue buffet.  Everyone’s tastes are catered for and whilst the adventurous are enticed with local delicacies such as mopani worms and game stews, those wishing to enjoy beef, pork, fish and chicken or a variety of vegetarian meals are welcome to do so.  The choice and range of food is extensive!
A feast of nightly entertainment incorporates Shona dances, singers and a local witchdoctor. A new participative and involving drumming session has been incorporated into The Boma entertainment. All guests are given a drum and a choreographer from our traditional dancers co-ordinates the sequence of drumming until the whole restaurant is abuzz with music from the African drum. After dinner, guests are invited to wile away the evening with the restaurant’s very own Sangoma - a traditional storyteller - to learn more about the country’s folklore, culture and heritage.  For the ladies, why not have your hair braided in the traditional way, while relaxing between courses.  After your meal, try our special Boma cocktail to aid your digestive juices and enhance sleep.

Guests are welcomed with a traditional greeting in Shona and Ndebele, the local languages, as well as English.  You are invited to take part in a hand washing ceremony before sampling traditional beer and snacks.

Guests should dress casually and bring along light but warm clothing in the months of May, June, July and August.

The poolside restaurant serves a light meal and snack menu from 9.30am to 4.00pm.

An on-site shop sells some of the frequently requested accessories such as The Boma cruet sets, poitjies, polo shirts and caps. In addition, tapes and CD’s of our traditional entertainment are a favourite momento.
