Linkwasha Camps - Hwange National Park

Linkwasha is situated in a private area in southeast Hwange National Park in a wilderness area on a private concession bordering Makalolo Plains. The area includes many diverse habitats including teak forests, palm islands, Kalahari savannah and acacia woodlands

The camp is around 20 minutes flying time to and from Hwange's main airport and around 60 minutes flying time from Victoria Falls airport. There is a weight restriction of 10kg luggage in soft bags.

Accommodation at Linkwasha consists of a 7 roomed camp (right next door to Little Linkwasha) and has
6 twin bedded tents and a honeymoon tent with outside bath. The camp accommodates up to 14 guests

Accommodation at Little Linkwasha consists of 3 tents with 2 twin bedded and one honeymoon tent with outside bath. This camp accommodates up to 6 guests with one tour leader

The Camp Description: (both camps have a plunge pool)

The camps are built on a slightly raised deck under thatch with excellent views across the floodplains and waterholes.

Communal Area:

Game viewing:

Lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, hyena, giraffe, sable, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, reed buck. The highlight is the large open plains where one can see large quantities of animals. Summer game viewing is excellent with wildebeest, zebra and eland found in abundance on the plains. In winter the water holes are magnets for elephant, antelope and others. On some days each water hole can see around 1000 elephants at a time coming down to drink.

Electricity and Water:

Camp has 220v generator powered electricity, power is stored in 12v batteries which power the lights and fans in the rooms. Videos cameras can be charged and the water for showers etc. is heated by solar power.

The area covers more than two thousand square kilometres. There are many diverse types of habitat – teak forests, scattered palm trees, Kalahari scrub, acacia woodlands and mopane forests. The area attracts over 400 species of birds – natural springs provide refreshing oasis’s for much of the wildlife in this area. The camp is set in a beautiful location with wonderful views. Roan and sable antelope are sometimes seen in the grasslands, and large concentrations of elephant and buffalo are common.

The camp owner -Larry was born in Zvishavane in southern Zimbabwe and educated in Harare. He went to university in the USA where he obtained a B.Sc. and an MBA the following year. Larry worked in the USA and returned full time to Zimbabwe in 1991 to build up his businesses here. In 1995 he and his wife launched a travel agency in Harare which is run by Larry's wife Rose. In 1996 they successfully tendered for the Linkwasha concession in the southeastern part of the Hwange National Park and ran a small camp there. In 1999, they formed a strategic alliance with Wilderness Safaris Zimbabwe. Linkwasha and Little Linkwasha camps were rebuilt and reopened in May 1999
