As the waters
rose and the land receded, there was left, amongst the skeletons
of trees, an island that became a haven for a myriad of species.
Fothergill
Island, set against the majestic Matusadona Mountains, is a place
where a respect and love of nature underscore people’s lives.
This is reflected in the design of the accommodation, where
guests are able to live side-by-side with nature, in open style
thatched lodges that blend with the surrounds.

Here with wide
variety of natural habitats, a combination of Mopane woodland an
grassland has given rise to a uniquely diverse mixture
of bird and animal life.
Goliath herons, tiny malachite kingfishers, storks and of
course the fisheagle can all be found on the island.

Walking with a
professional guide, game drives in open four wheel drive vehicles
and boat safaris give visitors a chance to view lion, elephant,
buffalo and other game first hand.
Situated within
the Matusadona National Park, approximately 20 kms across the lake
