SAFARIS IN
ZIMBABWE

The Hide Safari Camp - Hwange National Park

Unlike most other commercial safari camps in the area, The Hide is situated within Hwange National Park on its eastern boundary. Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest National Park, covering 14,650 square kilometers and is home to some of the most prolific game herds in Africa. It contains over 107species of animals and 405 species of birds. It is also one of the few remaining sanctuaries in Africa where herds of up to 100 elephant may be seen.

The Hide is ideally situated to afford guests the opportunity of viewing an abundance of game. Specially constructed hides near the waterholes make The Hide a photographers paradise. Herds of elephant, buffalo, kudu, giraffe and wildebeest are a few of the animals that can be seen – all of which are resident in the area. Game viewing excursions in comfortable overland vehicles or on foot are organized by licensed professional guides, and can be tailor-made to suit individual requirements.

The rare and secretive black rhino can be observed as well as hyena, honey badgers, bat eared foxes and wild dog, an endangered species. A diffused orange light is used to view game at the waterhole at night when lion, leopard and other nocturnal predators may be seen.

The black breasted snake eagle, crimson breasted shrike, rufus naped larks and kori bustards are only a sample of the variety of birds to be found at The Hide and Hwange National Park

Remnants of “fossil rivers” can be visited at the Kennedy pans and Linkwasha vlei, east of Hwange National Park’s Main Camp.

The vegetation in this region of Zimbabwe is mostly mopane scrub and some of the country’s finest teak forests.

Accommodation is in East African style canvas tents, comfortably furnished and each with en suite shower and toilet facilities.

Each tent has a large front porch area where visitors can relax and view game at leisure. Although The Hide is in the heart of the bush, meals are served in elegance and style.
